Oxford University Press Quadrangle, Oxford All is not as it seems in the forest. Four young Athenians enter, each in pursuit of the one they love. Meanwhile, six craftsmen rehearse what promises to be a play to remember for the upcoming royal wedding. That night, however, the fairies have other plans for them. The fairy king and queen are at war and when fairies go to war, things tend to get a little surreal… Professional actors were accompanied by members of Oxford University Press’ drama society for six picnic performances of one of Shakespeare’s best loved comedies, all in the beautiful quad of OUP. |

A standout feature of the acting is the amazing use of physical comedy: there was lots of running, dragging, and actors climbing on one another. The action is dynamic and renders the story even more accessible to audiences...The production is both lively and musical, including song and dance and interludes by a folk ensemble. It creates a dreamy and fun ambience. While the play is set in Athens, it conjures traditional British celebrations of summer, the most carefree and energetic time of year. The production is a wonderful example of how using outdoor space well can provide an audience with a wonderful outdoor experience...it's a perfect way to enjoy a classic play.
